Comprehensive Care, Tailored to Every Child

Activity-oriented learning that meets each child where they are

At Umeed-e-Noor, we believe that every child learns differently — and every child deserves a program designed specifically for them. Our approach is rooted in individualized education, where each child’s unique strengths, challenges, and potential form the foundation of their learning journey.

We specialize in activity-oriented learning, taking into account the capacity of each child. Our team of experienced educators, speech therapists, physiotherapists, and caregivers work together to create holistic programs that develop the whole child — cognitively, physically, emotionally, and socially.

We currently serve 95 day scholars and 11 residential boarders through the following programs:

Special Education

Our special education program is the cornerstone of Umeed-e-Noor. It is designed to help children with developmental challenges achieve personal independence, academic progress, and social integration. Children come to us through referrals from physicians, specialists, and parents. Each child undergoes a detailed assessment, which forms the basis of a customized developmental plan.

We believe in an individualized education system that focuses on the specific needs of every child, rather than a standard subject-centred program designed for all children with the same diagnosis. This philosophy ensures that no child is left behind.

Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)

The staff-to-child ratio in our individualized program is one to one. Educational plans are developed and implemented based on each child’s specific strengths and areas for growth. Trained, qualified teachers deliver instruction on a one-to-one basis, ensuring focused attention and maximum progress.

Small Group Programs

Groups of 5–6 children are led by a senior teacher and an assistant teacher. Even in group settings, individualized educational programs are developed for each child and carried out using motivational strategies that encourage participation and achievement.

Curriculum & Learning Approach

Our curriculum is based on normal child development models, which allows for the potential mainstreaming of students into regular education where appropriate. Key features include:

  • Small class sizes of 5–10 students for focused attention
  • Computer-based learning to develop digital literacy and cognitive skills
  • Recreational activities, outdoor play, and social development programs
  • Daily living skills training: dressing, personal hygiene, cooking, socialization, and self-help
  • Transportation facility for day scholars

Arts, Crafts & Creative Expression

Children are introduced to arts and crafts activities that help them develop concentration, hand-eye coordination, and natural creativity. Activities such as painting, drawing, and colouring encourage children to discover their creative potential at their own pace.

Extracurricular & Special Olympics

We incorporate art, music, sports, and computers into our program on a regular basis. We have dedicated teachers for computer classes and music instruction. Our sports teacher provides instruction to students who regularly participate in Special Olympics games — a source of immense pride for our children and community.

Periodic Assessment

Ongoing evaluations help track each child’s progress and allow us to adjust educational and therapy plans as needed. Parents receive regular updates on their child’s development milestones.

Speech & Language Therapy

Communication is the most powerful tool in the modern world — and in any form, it is a basic necessity of life. At Umeed-e-Noor, speech and language therapy is a vital part of every child’s program. We believe that every child deserves to be understood.

Our speech therapy journey begins with a comprehensive assessment of each child, from which we create an individualized program targeting specific areas of speech and language development. We accept children from as young as 9 months for early intervention — because the earlier therapy begins, the greater the outcomes.

Who We Help

Our speech and language therapy program supports children who are:

  • Intellectually challenged
  • Hearing impaired
  • On the autism spectrum
  • Slow learners
  • Living with stammering or speech fluency challenges
  • Diagnosed with Down syndrome
  • Affected by cerebral palsy

Individualized One-to-One Sessions

One-to-one sessions enable focused intervention and measurable skill development. Each session is tailored to the child’s current abilities and short-term goals, with devoted and passionate efforts to help the child break through communication barriers.

Language Arts Program

We help children express, comprehend, and communicate through multiple modalities:

  • Verbal speech development and articulation exercises
  • Sign language instruction for non-verbal or hearing-impaired children
  • Picture Exchange Communication Systems (PECS) for visual learners

Reading & Writing Development

Children are taught reading through phonics and sight word recognition. Writing skills are developed through fine motor strengthening exercises, correct posture and pencil grip training, and structured practice.

Physiotherapy

Optimal physical development is vital for every child’s physical and mental growth, general health, and overall well-being. At Umeed-e-Noor, our physiotherapy department is spacious, well-equipped, and purpose-built to meet the unique needs of children with special needs.

Our team of highly specialized pediatric physiotherapists works with a wide range of congenital, developmental, neuromuscular, skeletal, and acquired disorders. We serve both day scholars and external referrals in our pediatric physiotherapy department.

Assessment & Individualized Plans

After a comprehensive physical assessment, we design individualized therapeutic programs with both short-term and long-term goals. Every therapy plan is regularly reviewed and adjusted to ensure continued progress.

Focus Areas

  • Posture and balance
  • Muscle tone and strength
  • Gross and fine motor skill development
  • Eye-hand coordination
  • Manipulation and constructive play
  • Gait training and mobility improvement

Child-Friendly, Play-Based Approach

Our therapy areas are colourful, welcoming, and designed to feel like play rather than work. We use play-based techniques, sensory equipment, exercise balls, standing frames, and age-appropriate tools that keep children motivated, engaged, and eager to participate in their own recovery.

Day & Night Boarding Facilities

“Home is where your heart is.”

Umeed-e-Noor is more than a school — it is a home. For children with severe disabilities whose families cannot manage full-time care, our boarding facility provides a safe, loving, and nurturing environment where they can live, learn, and grow.

Not all children with chronic disabilities and complex conditions can be managed at home. Some families are economically disadvantaged. Some children have been abandoned. For these children, Umeed-e-Noor becomes their family.

What We Provide

Our residential facility accommodates boarders who receive:

  • Safe, clean living spaces with round-the-clock supervision
  • Complete academic instruction through our special education program
  • Speech therapy and physiotherapy as part of their daily routine
  • Social activities, recreation, and community engagement
  • Personal care including meals, hygiene, clothing, and medical attention
  • Behaviour modification and cognitive development programs

Who Lives Here

We currently care for 11 residential boarders ranging in age from young children to adults, with severe mental and physical disabilities including cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, orthopedic impairments, neuromuscular disorders, microcephaly, and multiple disabilities.

Most of our boarders come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Some have been living at Umeed-e-Noor since childhood, having been left in our care by families who could not manage their complex needs. The organization has become their permanent home — and we are committed to giving them a life of dignity and care for as long as they need us.

Your Support Matters

Maintaining and expanding our boarding facility depends entirely on donor generosity. Every contribution, whether sponsoring a boarder, providing supplies, or supporting operations, directly impacts the lives of the most vulnerable children in our care.

Vocational Training & Life Skills

Independence is the ultimate goal. At Umeed-e-Noor, we prepare young adults with special needs for life beyond our centre through hands-on vocational training and essential life skills education.

Vocational Skills Training

Our vocational training program equips students with practical, employable skills:

  • Tailoring and embroidery
  • Beautician training
  • Art and craft production
  • Housekeeping
  • Bookbinding
  • Mobile phone repair
  • Paper making

Home Economics & Daily Living

Our dedicated kitchen facility allows children to cultivate essential life skills and become more self-reliant. The home economics program teaches:

  • Basic food preparation and cooking
  • Folding clothes and wardrobe management
  • Personal hygiene and grooming
  • Organizing personal belongings
  • Social etiquette and communication in daily settings

These skills form the foundation of independent living and empower our students to participate meaningfully in their households and communities.

Computer Literacy Program

In today’s digital world, computer skills are essential for participation and opportunity. Our computer literacy program is designed to develop fine motor skills, enhance digital engagement, and build confidence through interactive online activities.

Specialized computer classes use adaptive software and guided instruction to help children with special needs navigate the digital world. From basic mouse and keyboard skills to educational games and creative software, our program opens doors to a world of possibility.
